Medicinal Manuka Honey Syrup!
Updated: Dec 29, 2022
I just made a batch of my go to manuka honey syrup with organic lemon + ginger + turmeric for a friend who is under the weather! I enjoy this antimicrobial & anti-inflammatory syrup as immune nourishment as a preventive measure but it is especially helpful during a sore throat or respiratory illness!
🍋

Manuka honey: powerful antimicrobial & a humectant which is good for moisturizing & providing a protective coating on the throat. Choose highest quality manuka- I have 80+ MGO
Organic lemon & zest:
The peel of citrus fruits is a rich source of flavanones & polymethoxylated flavones (PMFs)…several studies suggest that PMFs exhibit anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, antiviral, antioxidant, antithrombogenic, and antiatherogenic effects
***MUST USE ORGANIC WHEN YOU ARE USING THE PEEL AND ZEST!!!!!******
Organic ginger: Fresh ginger can stimulate mucosal cells to secrete IFN-β (Beta interferon) that is contributed to counteracting viral infection
Organic turmeric: turmeric (thanks to curcumin) is a potent antioxidant. Turmeric has been shown to break down mucus- which makes it easier for your body to remove the mucus from its airways
🍋
*organic black pepper increases the absorption of the curcumin in the turmeric !
🍋
*Put the honey in a disinfected clean glass jar and mix with the rest of the ingredients.
Take 1 - 4 spoonfuls throughout the day as needed for a few days at the start of your illness. Always use a new clean spoon for each time you take some out of the jar. A great tip is to leave the jar on your counter in your bathroom at night & take a tablespoon if you wake up in the middle of the night, it is sooo soothing.
🍋
Ingredients:
1 JAR HIGH QUALITY MANUKA HONEY (this is the key medicinal component so it must be the good stuff)
Juice & zest of 1 small organic lemon
1-2 TBs grated ginger
1-2 heaping teaspoon grated turmeric (I had white turmeric which actually has a higher curcumin level!)
A few cranks or pinch of organic black pepper (to increase absorption of curcumin)
Measurements don’t have to be perfect but you want it to taste spicy, slightly bitter & lemony with a thick syrupy consistency 🔥

I stuffed this healing basket with juicy, hydrating, vitamin C rich satsumas & a jar of the honey syrup :-)
I have found this nips sickness in the bud and/or has brought soothing comfort while healing!
Blessings, Keri
